Statement:

This is a relatively small size (8 x 10 inches) with wool thread embedded in flax sheet with further manipulations of the over-couched sheet once dry. The revealed wool thread creates new lines and marks while deepening layers.

Statement:

This small size (8 x 10 inches) sheet of flax has been manipulated after drying, using hole punches and awls. A layer of foil sits behind the sheet to subtly reflect light through the holes and losses.

Biography

Giselle Simón is the University Conservator at the University of Iowa Libraries, and Adjunct Faculty at the University of Iowa Center for the Book. She also currently serves as the President of the North American Hand Papermakers.
