NAHP Conferences

Each year, North American Hand Papermakers hosts a conference focused on different topics and themes relating to hand papermaking. Papermakers, researchers, artists, collectors, and aficionados come from all over North America (and the world!) to present and learn. Join us to learn more about scholarly research, experimental papermaking techniques, and new thinking with regards to the contextual importance of papermaking in art practices today. Presentations, panel discussions, and demonstrations focus on papermaking practice, history, scholarship, and teaching.

NAHP conferences focus on sharing research in the study and practice of hand papermaking while fostering community and networking among papermakers. Each year the Anita Lyn Forgach Keynote Lecture and, beginning in 2020, the Elaine Koretsky Memorial Presentation highlight contemporary innovators in the field of papermaking and papermaking related scholarship.

Scholarships are available for both students and non-students, which cover conference registration and the banquet when the conference is in-person. The scholarship fund is supported by an annual silent auction held at the banquet.

The archive of recent conference programs and photographs in our online galleries show the great range of participants and topics.

For questions, contact Co-VP’s of Annual Meeting, Adam Bryant and Catherine Liu at newaltitudes@nahandpapermakers.org.

“Everyone we met was welcoming and we felt invigorated by connecting to a variety of people in the field. We've been able to attend every conference since 2014. Every year it is a kind of pilgrimage that we look forward to.”

— Jenn Woodward, Proprietor of Pulp and Deckle and former Board member
