Under the Forest Floor

Media: Book arts, cast kozo, flax, lokta papers, laser

Statement:

The unseen process of mycelium growth that takes place under the forest floor results in fruiting bodies called mushrooms. Drawings for the book were translated into bitmaps and etched into paper. The laser singes through the earthy, fibrous, handmade paper, much like how the mycelium hyphae tunnel through the soil.
