Statement: At the start of 2022, as an expansion of my commitment to daily practice, I began a year long project: The Alchemy of Paper. Each day I make a sheet of paper, responding to a different theme that changes monthly. July’s theme was “Remembering the Sea”.

Statement: Each day I make a sheet of paper, as part of a year long project: The Alchemy of Paper. In June, away from my studio, I sometimes needed to rely on using paper that I had previously made, specifically for use during the month. This is one of those pieces.

Nina Meledandri is an artist living in Brooklyn. After graduating from Hampshire College, she became a freelance photographer and was published by the NYTimes Magazine, Architectural Digest and NYMagazine among others. In the ’90’s she taught herself oil painting, joining the David Findlay Gallery where she had two solo shows and was represented until it closed in 2008. A cornerstone of Meledandri’s process is daily practice. She has made watercolors every day since 1996, has posted daily to a minimum of three photoblogs for the past 18 years and since 1/1/22 she has committed to pulling paper each day.
